Lip Blush

Transform your lips by enhancing your natural color, shape and even volume. A lip blush is the most subtle way in creating an even lip color, symmetry, definition and give color to pale lips.

The color is always chosen together during the appointment based on your wishes and the natural lip color. Lip pigmentation is semi-permanent, meaning a touch-up is typically needed after about three years. Want to enjoy your lip pigmentation for as long as possible? Be sure to follow all aftercare instructions carefully.

Keep in mind that you must wait at least 4 weeks after getting lip fillers and wait two weeks after your lip blush before getting lip fillers.

Important!

If you have had a cold sore in the past or are prone to cold sores, lip blushing can cause outbreaks, which can result in loss of pigment. No worries, you can still get a Lip Blush done. We recommend that you contact your doctor to get a prescription for anti-viral medication to prevent such outbreaks. This is usually Aciclovir/Valaciclovir. You can start this one day before the treatment or on the same day. We also recommend that you take L-lysine supplements as a preventative measure. Never had a cold sore? You may still be a carrier.

If you have darker toned lips and are looking for a color correction or neutralization. You have to come in for a consultation first.

The appointment process

Step 1: Shaping and color

After discussing your personal preferences and wishes, we’ll start outlining your lips using concealer. We’ll check every detail and create the best shape following your natural lipshape. This will also allow us to correct asymmetry, create balance and visually fuller looking lips. Only after you are fully satisfied with the shape, will we continue onto the next step. We will swatch colors and recommend that you bring your favorite lipstick or inspiration picture to the appointment.

Step 2: outlining

The second step is setting the outline. This sets the shape. Please note, we do not apply pigment outside the lip’s border!

Step 3: Shading

With a permanent makeup machine, tiny dots of pigment are applied to create the lip blush effect. This can take about 2-3 hours. Most people assume that a lip blush treatment is very painful, but fortunately this is not the case. Because we work with a soft and safe technique, the treatment is experienced as almost painless. The appointment takes quite some time, but we want to make sure we have all the time we need for the best results.

Permanent makeup, also known as cosmetic tattooing or micropigmentation, is a machine tattooing technique in which pigment is deposited into the skin’s first layer. This layer renews itself constantly, which makes the pigment fade with time. The speed in which it fades depends on age, skin type and lifestyle choice but on average we recommend a touchup between 1.5 to 2 years to maintain the desired effect.

What is (semi) permanent makeup?

Proper aftercare is essential for a beautiful final result. By following the provided aftercare instructions you ensure the best possible healing, and prevent complications such as an infection. After the treatment, you might experience redness and sensitivity on the treated area. This will subside within 48 hours.

The healing process of lips is quite fast. It is usually fully healed within a week but it takes up to 6 weeks for the color to settle. On about day 3, the lips may appear slightly darker in color. After that, the lips start to peel. Never pull them off the scabs! After about 7 days, the peeling should have stopped and the lip color will be up to 50% lighter. After 6 weeks, everything has healed well and the color has stabilized. Good aftercare is fundamental for good recovery and the prevention of complications. Therefore, carefully follow the instructions that are given at the end of the treatment.

All aftercare instructions and products will be given to you at the end of your appointment.

Aftercare and Healing Process

    • Avoid consuming products high in caffeine (e.g., coffee, green tea, Red Bull), alcohol, or drugs 24 hours before your appointment.

    • Do not take blood-thinning medications such as ibuprofen or aspirin 24 hours prior to the treatment.

    • For optimal results I recommend to moisturize your lips daily with a nourishing cream, such as Aquaphor lip balm for one week before the treatment.

    • Exfoliate your lips 4 to 5 days before your appointment to prevent dry and flaky lips.

    • If you carry the herpes simplex virus (cold sores), I recommend contacting your doctor for a prescription of an oral antiviral medication (Aciclovir/Valaciclovir) to help prevent outbreaks. This treatment can be started one day before or on the day of your appointment. You can still have lip blushing done. We just want to ensure you get the best results possible.

    • Preventive care: Taking L-lysine supplements in advance is also recommended.

Contraindications

faqs

  • Ombre Powder Brows are suitable for everyone aged 18 and older. This type of permanent makeup (PMU) is suitable for all skin types: normal, oily, dry, sensitive, combination, and mature skin.

  • My main issue with microblading is that it cuts into the skin in order to deposit pigment and that it is not suitable for most skin types. It is simply not suitable for people with sensitive skin and large pores/oily skin, which is the majority of us. In almost all cases that I have seen, the strokes from microblading are cut too deep and become blurred. If you want strokes I would recommend Nano. Powder Brows also looks so much better long term and fade better over time.

  • They are both methods of PMU but the method of how they are applied is very different. Microblading uses a blade to create hair-like strokes. Powder brows uses a needle to create tiny dots (pixels) to create a powdery effect. Just like a regular makeup pencil, except a lot softer.

  • Yes. However, you need to book a free consultation prior. That is because this treatment is a more extensive process. I would need to know the color you would like to achieve and we would therefore need to discuss the process.

  • The lips are a naturally sensitive area, so it is normal to worry whether lip blushing will hurt. Fortunately, I use a very gentle technique. Most clients describe minimal to no pain at all.

  • PMU is safe as long as you do not have any contraindications, which can be found on the permanent makeup information page. Additionally, we follow strict guidelines, and our practice is certified by the Health Department of Northwest Michigan.

  • Not always, but I do recommend to check if it’s needed after 12-18 months.

  • Yes, of course. Permanent makeup is an enhancement of your natural features. PMU makes your daily routine a lot quicker and easier but if you want a bold, colorful look you can still wear regular makeup.

  • Yes, you can. However, there must be at least a 2-week gap between your last Botox or filler treatment and the PMU procedure.

  • Permanent makeup is also referred to as semi-permanent makeup. While PMU has a long-lasting effect, it gradually fades over time. It is not 100% permanent like a traditional tattoo. As the skin exfoliates, the pigment fades gradually. Therefore, it is recommended to schedule an annual touch-up treatment.
